Hi! I’m Andréa Marchese, the creator of Andréa’s Protein Cakery. After struggling with disordered eating and body image issues for many years, I found a high-protein diet to be an integral part of my transformation to a healthy lifestyle. Adding protein to healthy desserts and snacks can help with hunger and cravings, help regulate blood sugar, and it means we can eat cake for a healthy breakfast!  

Andréa's Protein Cakery is excited to bring you delicious products and recipes that can help you treat your body well. Our ingredients are all-natural, gluten-free, and with the exception of some fun (all-natural) sprinkles, are free from refined sugars. We are proud to offer dairy-free, egg-free, and vegan options (coming soon!), and we use lecithin-free protein powders so most of our products are soy-free, as well.

I have always loved baking. I'd say it's in my genes, since many of my family members are, or were, pastry chefs and bakers. I went the academic route and studied mathematics, but it seems I have found my way into the industry after all! This all began when I told a friend I was taking a class in grain-free/paleo baking. He said, "You should bake with protein powder." I said, "You can do that?" And so it began!

Although I found many recipes online, I wasn't finding exactly what I wanted. I was looking for recipes with ingredients that were all-natural, low in carbohydrates, and without any unnecessary milk or dairy. I had been making raw vegan desserts often, and I was very much influenced by the use of whole, raw, minimally processed ingredients. Never the type to turn down a challenge, I decided to create the recipes myself! I started the recipe blog in the fall of 2013 as a way to pay it forward for all of the information I had learned about health and fitness online. I hoped to one day turn it into a business, but the primary goal was to offer great recipes. (This is still a primary goal of ours!)

Having my summers off as a math professor, I enjoyed working more on the blog. During the summer of 2014, I wrote a recipe ebook to raise money for cancer research. In the spring of 2015, I surveyed my readers to see what more they would like me to offer. Baking mixes and ready-to-eat snacks were the top requests! So I spent the summer and fall of 2015 getting all my certifications and inspections, found commercial kitchen space, and ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to get things rolling.

This online shop launched in January of 2016. We quickly realized, however, that we were not set up to keep up with production. I was still teaching full time, and we needed more time to prepare. We stopped promoting the shop while we got everything in order, and reopened in August of 2016. We are continually working on new products, and we are excited about what's to come!

We are currently located in New York City, and all of our products are prepared and packaged in the Cake Alchemy kitchen. We are working on larger-scale production, and we hope to have that in place very soon! 

Please note: Although Cake Alchemy does work with wheat products, we have strict processes in place to avoid gluten contamination. Many of our products have been tested by an outside lab and have been found to be gluten-free. We will be updating the product listings as we go, and the description of each product will clearly state if the product has been tested.
